Through fast diagnosis, high spatial resolution and low radiation dose, improved diagnostics and treatment of ischaemic heart disease and stroke (together causing 36% of all deaths in developed countries), cancer (responsible for 25.8 % of all deaths in the EU) and injuries caused by trauma (leaving approximately 1 million people in the EU permanently disabled every year), are perfect fits for Prismatic Sensors technology.
Figure 1 Latest progress from Prismatics research show large improvement for iodine (red) and calcium (green) material separation of iodine injected into an excised heart. This can have a large impact on the outcome of treatment of patients suffering from stroke or cardiovascular diesease (left image shows mono-energetic image, right show material separated image). The images also show higher spatial resolution which also is expected to have a large positive impact.
